Blackjack Cabernet Merlot 2013

93/100

18.0/20

A smooth, polished and elegant, fine-grained cabernet whose fresh aromas of cassis, blackberries, dark plums and cedar/chocolate oak are lifted by a sweet violet-like fragrance. Pristine and juicy, it’s medium to full-bodied,long and supple, with juicy flavours of cassis, dark cherries, raspberries and blood plums tightly knit with fresh vanilla/cedar oak and supported by a fine, dusty spine. By far the best release under this label.

Blackjack Block 6 Shiraz 2013

93/100

18.2/20

An elegant, supple, delightfully pure and pristine shiraz whose sweetly oaked and floral perfume of violets, cassis, blackberries, cracked pepper and musky spices overlies tightly knit aromas of cedar and chocolate. Medium in weight, supported by fine, crunchy tannins, its smooth and brightly lit presence of dark berries, plums and suggestions of cherry is artfully knit with restrained cedar/vanilla oak, finishing with charming length, balance and a lingering violet-like note.

Blackjack Shiraz 2013

93/100

18.2/20

A very well made wine of shapely elegance and delightful intensity. A deep, floral, violet-like perfume of cassis, blackberries, dark plums and chocolatey oak overlies briary, peppery and spicy nuances and a faint meatiness. Full to medium-bodied, it’s smooth and seamless, with a vibrant, faintly sour-edged presence of juicy blackberries, plums and blackcurrants tightly integrated with cedar/chocolate oak and a fine, loose-knit backbone. It finishes with savoury notes, excellent length, freshness and brightness.

2013 BLACKJACK BLOCK 6 SHIRAZ

The key here that it doesn't throw the baby out with the bath water. With each release the wine seems to find a new level of elegance, yet remain ripe and flavoursome. There is no real tar or blackberry here, it's cherry and plummy, and while there is gum leaf notes there are also element of cracked pepper. wood smoke and fennel root, with many acidity ringing through the finish. It's inherently complex but upfront fruitiness is still there to be enjoyed.

2013 BLACKJACK SHIRAZ

in a word: beautiful. Rich and silken, awash with pure, dark berried flavour but admirably aided by savoury inputs and a sheer coating of creamy oak.
That its ( gently pepper) tannin moves in perfect formation through the back half os the wine is no small bonus.

2013 BLACKJACK BLOCK 6 SHIRAZ

Deep purple/red colour and a dusty, red berry and violet-scented aroma. A smart wine, tight and elegant, medium to full-bodied and with savoury tannins cleansing the finish. Firm, tightly-knit and intense, promising to deliver more in time. 12/11/2015

2013 BLACKJACK SHIRAZ

Deep purple/red hue and a dusty oak and perfumed bath soap oak aroma. The wine is medium to full-bodied and lively, with fresh acidity and bright, young fruit. It's not complex as yet. But there is intensity, concentration and vigour. It will have a life in the cellar. 12/11/2015

2013 BLACKJACK CABERNET MERLOT

90

Medium to deep red colour with a tint of purple. The aroma is fresh and bright and shows blackberry and a definite trace of peppermint. It's clean and vibrant, fresh and straight, with excellent depth of cabernet fruit flavour and is not simplistic. Well-made cabernet at the price-point. 27/11/2015

2013 BLACKJACK CHORTLE'S EDGE SHIRAZ CABERNET

Medium to deep red/purple colour of good hue. The aroma is fascinatingly complex with vegetal, herbal, minty nuances and spices galore. There's a lot going on here. It's elegantly weighted on the palate, nicely balanced and textured, with good persistence. This is really good value, approachable and affordable. It's fruit-driven but far from boring. I could drink a bit of this. A faint trace of reduction on the nose doesn't bother me. 12/11/2015
